Thailand has introduced a new digital entry requirement for all foreign visitors: the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Effective from May 1, 2025, this online form replaces the traditional paper-based TM6 arrival card, aiming to streamline immigration procedures and enhance security measures.
What is the TDAC?
The TDAC is a mandatory online form that all non-Thai nationals must complete within 72 hours prior to their arrival in Thailand. This requirement applies to travelers entering by air, land, or sea, including tourists, business travelers, and long-term residents. Exceptions are made for those transiting without passing through immigration and individuals using a Border Pass.
Benefits of the TDAC
The implementation of the TDAC is part of Thailand’s efforts to digitize its immigration process, aiming to
- Enhance Security: By collecting information in advance, authorities can better screen incoming travelers.
- Streamline Arrivals: Reducing paperwork at entry points speeds up the immigration process.
Support Public Health: Pre-arrival health declarations assist in monitoring and managing potential health risks.
Important Considerations
- Mandatory for Each Entry: Travelers must complete a new TDAC for every entry into Thailand.
- No Visa Replacement: The TDAC is not a visa and does not replace visa requirements. Travelers must still obtain the appropriate visa if required.
Digital Transition: While a paper option may be available initially, it is expected to be phased out in favor of the digital system.
Thailand’s move to a digital arrival card reflects a global trend towards digitizing border controls, similar to systems being implemented in other countries. Travelers are encouraged to complete the TDAC in advance to ensure a smooth entry into the country.
